U. S. HISTORY (A)
THE 13 COLONIES & THE 3 COLONIAL REGIONS - The 13 original Colonies were divided into 3 distinct regions (or "sections"). These were the New England Colonies (in yellow), the Middle Colonies (in dark pink), and Southern Colonies. Each of these regions had a distinct economic function that helped ensure the success of these Colonies. For example, the Southern Colonies proved to have very good soil for growing rice, cotton, and (later) indigo farming.
